About the Course

Credit Units 3
Lecture Hours 3
Laboratory Hours 3
Pre-requisite CS 30 / ICS 30

The course deals primarily with the basic electronic devices, logic circuit design and switching theory. It aims to relate the fundamental concepts gained in the subject on actual computer hardware operation. A careful blend of theory and implementation is also ensured for the course to be indelibly etched in the students' minds, as well as for a more thorough understanding of the computer's circuitry.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course you should be able to:

  • understand the basic electronic devices: its operation, characteristics, and usage;

  • understand digital and switching circuits: its operation, characteristics, and usage;

  • understand the basic microcomputer circuitry: its operation, characteristics and usage;

  • design fundamental logic circuits to relate it to microcomputer circuitry;
