Pre-requisite ICS20

An introduction to the programming tools and skills required for building and maintaining sites and applications on the Web, with the basic assumption that students have already had prior background and skill in procedural and object-oriented programming. Topics include the Web programming model and the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), client-side technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, VBScript, server-side technologies such as PHP, ASP and Java Servlets and integrating other application layer services such as databases into Web applications. This course requires students to do some programming through scripting languages (i.e. JavaScript, VBScript, PHP, and ASP).

By the end of this course students should be able to:

  • understand web architecture in the context of static and dynamic web sites;

  • write basic JavaScript/VBScript, PHP and ASP scripts;

  • utilize PHP and ASP built-in functions in creating web applications;

  • perform database operations in MS SQL and MySQL using PHP/ASP scripts; and

  • analyze, design, and implement a web-enabled computer system.
